Privacy Policy
Last updated 2026-10-11
Umagrid is a small hobby project, no user accounts, no need for your name or email, no advertising or tracking networks anywhere in it. Here's exactly what does happen with your data.
What's stored on your device
The first time you play, your browser generates a random anonymous ID and saves it in your browser's local storage (not a cookie). It's just a random string, it isn't linked to your name, email, or any other personal information, and it never leaves your device except when attached to game requests you make. Your browser also stores your light/dark theme preference and your own play stats (games played, best score) locally, the same way.
Umagrid moved from umagrid.vercel.app to omegames.app/umagrid in October 2026. If you played at the old address, your browser carries that ID, your stats and your theme across the first time you come back, directly from one address to the other. They aren't sent to any server along the way.
What's stored on our servers
When you submit a guess, the server records which character you guessed, for which grid cell, whether it was correct, and your score, tied only to that random anonymous ID and the puzzle's date. There's no way to connect this back to who you are. We don't collect or store your IP address in the database.
Feedback
Send feedback through the site and we store the message text and when it arrived, that's it. No ID, no way to tie it back to you or your play history.
Rate limiting
To stop scripted spam, guess submissions are briefly rate-limited per IP address. This check happens entirely in server memory, resets automatically, and is never written to a database or log file.
Hosting
Umagrid runs on a small set of third-party infrastructure providers:
- Vercel: hosts the website itself
- Fly.io: hosts the game API
- Neon: hosts the database
Like most infrastructure providers, they may keep their own standard operational access logs (e.g. for abuse prevention) under their own respective privacy policies, outside of Umagrid's control.
Everything the game loads, including its fonts and character art, comes from Umagrid's own hosting. Nothing is fetched from Google or any other third party. The Ko-fi link takes you to Ko-fi's site, where Ko-fi's own privacy policy applies.

Changes
If what Umagrid collects ever changes (for example, if analytics are added later), this page will be updated to reflect it.
